Want to convert a PDF file to jpg or gif

I have a photo image that's in a PDF file. Is there a way to convert it to jpeg or gif? Is there some free software that will do this, too?

Gimp ( http://www.gimp.org/ ) can read pdf files and import them as image. After, all you have to do is 'Save as...' with an image file extension (.png, .jpg, etc...).

Note that I never test this on Windows, but it should work.

Open the pdf with OpenOffice.org and just copy the image.

Install the Fireshot (Screenshot) addon to your browser and just make a screenshot of either the entire page or the section you want.

This will then work for anything you can open in a browser.

Alternatively, you can get your whole screen by pressing either:
ALT Prnt Scrn (This will get the active window only)
CTRL Prnt Scrn (This will get your entire desktop/screen)

Once you have the screenshot in your clipboard, paste it into your favorite graphics editor by pressing CTRL V

The Gimp is best http://www.gimp.org - as it lets you adjust the quality/size of the image.
Alternatively, you can use MS Paint as you already probably have it installed in your system. Start>Program Files>Accessories>MSPaint

I'll second and third the suggestion to use GIMP. It creates screen caps pretty easily and the price is right.

Furthering the question as I always just screenshot, can this be done while keeping the quality?#
Ive had 300dpi images sent to me in pdfs that haven't been the same once I've got the image.
    Does gimp keep the quality?
