Is It Hotter Than Chili?
Micrografx Webtricity 2
For a long time, the name Micrografx only signified to me the sponsor of an annual chili cookoff. But--just as I was about to call a halt after several months' worth of graphics tool reviews--a package mysteriously showed up in the mail containing more than half a dozen CD-ROMs and a lot of press releases. Best this, easiest that, yeah sure. But the timing led me to give it a try, and guess what? Nope, I'm going to make you suffer through another screen or so...but follow along, it's quite interesting.
Webtricity 2 is actually a combination of graphics packages that work together for Web image creation and manipulation. The package includes Picture Publisher 8 (a general-purpose raster image editing program), Simply 3D 3 (a 3D creation and animation program), Windows Draw 6 (a vector drawing program), and Media Manager 8 (a high-end graphics thumbnail browser and search tool).
Micrografx also includes a bit of clip art with Webtricity 2. Hope you're keeping score:
- 80,000 pieces of Web-ready art on 6 CDs
- 10,000+ photographs
- 25,000+ vector clip art
- 3,000+ vintage Illustrations
- 1,000+ 3D objects
- 1,000+ textures and seamless tiles
- 1,000+ animations
- 33,000+ additional vector clip art
- 250+ fonts
System Requirements
Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0:
- 486 or faster processor (Pentium recommended)
- 8 MB of RAM (16 MB recommended)...or 16 and 24 for 98 and NT (per application)
- 207 MB available hard-disk space for installation (300 MB free recommended)
- SVGA display (16 bit color and Direct 3D acceleration recommended)
- CD-ROM drive
Price
The retail price of the entire package is $199.95.

But will you flip over Webtricity? Let's put it this way...
